Overview
SMARTS Arts In Non-Arts Spaces—Discover an artist at work in a place you wouldn't expect
The goal of SMARTS Arts in Non-Arts Spaces is to provide K-12 students arts experiences outside of their classroom in public spaces where they congregate. SMARTS community teaching artists are demonstrating their art rather than teaching so in some cases they are describing what they do, making art, and/or performing. SMARTS arts disciplines included are visual art, music, theater, dance, and creative writing.
Although our pilot last year was in person, we are providing this through Virtual SMARTS during the pandemic. Our partners broadcast these videos in the cafeteria, the hallways, the main entrance, home rooms, and other non-arts spaces and will complete one survey for each time they show the video. The data will be used to help us to determine their reach as well as to continue to grow this programming. These videos are available to them for a limited time.
Disclaimer--Although we know that making and sharing art is always better in person, this allows us to continue to connect students to new arts experiences.
