Stephanie Chavara is a storytelling and theater-making teaching artist with over a decade's experience. A newcomer to the area, she now teaches at SMARTS. Prior to this move, she has been creating art with young people in Raleigh, Chicago, New York, and throughout Montana. In addition, she works with PBS Kids to develop community engagement and storytelling skills. As a performer, she has worked in Europe, toured the American West, and was nominated for a Best Actress Jeff Award in Chicago. She continues her work with Montana Shakespeare in the Parks as a curriculum developer and coaches teaching artists in best practices. She is committed to continual training in inclusive language, trauma-informed teaching, and equity in order to make her ensembles and classes a safe and supported space.
Stephanie says, "An actor must practice staying present through listening and noticing. Being flexible in body, voice, and imagination allows for the actor to be as uninhibited as possible. This video series concludes with an examination of Titania's monologue from A Midsummer Night's Dream, focusing on the texture of language and character development."
